HYDROFORMYLATION CATALYSTS

Title:ALDEHYDES BY OLEFIN HYDROFORMYLATION

Inventor(s):S. Chuang

Disclosure 115-DIV U.S. Patent 5,082,997

Olefins are reacted with carbon monoxide and hydrogen to produce aldehydes to the near exclusion of alcohols in the presence of a solid phase catalyst, consisting essentially of one or more sulfided Group VIII metals (preferably nickel, cobalt, iron, and rhodium).

This invention produces aldehydes via a process that is not vulnerable to poisoning by sulfur-containing species in the feedstock. In addition, the process obviates costly separation processes currently required to recover the conventional homogeneous catalysts.
